Cort- The day itself isn't offensive; in fact, I think it's a sweet (if over-commercialized) idea. This post was in response to the 10 hour-long day at work I'd just survived, and in anitcipation of the long and potentially understaffed day at work that was ahead (it ended up being 14.5 hours long).
But I very much agree with your choice to dwell on the pure intentions of St. Valentine's Day. Thanks for the perspective!

but i'm sure that st. valentine was a nice person and the people who originally wanted to name a day after him had pure intentions.
perhaps those of us who remain unattached can choose to dwell on that...the pure intentions of St. Valentine's Day.
